オックスフォード英語辞典、最新版に「ツイート」が登場

世界最大の英語辞典「オックスフォード英語辞典」の最新版に、Twitterでつぶやくことを意味する「tweet（ツイート）」が加わったとのこと。

ツイートという単語には本来、小鳥のさえずりという意味があり、こちらの起源は１６世紀までさかのぼるとされる。そこへ今回、新たに「ツイッターに投稿する」という動詞と、その投稿自体を指す名詞の意味が追加された。

ＯＥＤは１００年以上の歴史を持ち、約６０万語を網羅した権威ある辞典。改訂は年に４回実施されるが、編集主任のジョン・シンプソン氏によれば、新語を追加する場合は通常１０年以上使われていることが条件となる。ツイートの新たな意味は、異例の速さで掲載されたという。

オンライン版の方も当然、更新されているのだろうなと思って、早速、調べてみたところ、動詞と名刺の2つの意味がしっかり登録されていました。
